The June 2024 newsletter covers several important topics:

  • Structural Stability in Construction: The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) emphasises the importance of risk assessment to prevent unintentional structural collapse during alterations, demolition, and dismantling. Adherence to HSE guidelines ensures safety and structural integrity in every project.
  • Working with Hazardous Substances: Hazardous substances, labelled as ‘dangerous for supply’, cause illnesses like asthma, cancer, and dermatitis among workers annually. The COSHH Regulations require employers to assess and manage risks effectively.
  • Southampton Construction Site Fire: A fire at a Southampton construction site, caused by accidental ignition of roofing material, led to the evacuation of around 70 people. All workers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
  • Fire Safety in Construction: The HSE has published the third edition of the HSG168 guidance on fire safety in the construction industry. The guidance provides strategies on preventing fires on construction sites and ensuring people’s safety.
