15 Oct October
In this month’s newsletter we highlight the following topics:
- World Mental Health Day – World mental health day took place on the 10th of October. A discussion with the Executive Director for Health, Safety and Wellbeing at FLYD covers some pressing topics regarding mental health. This Q&A highlights the importance of nurturing positive psychological health. Mental health affects the quality of life of workers, as well as the morale and productivity of workplaces – whether that be in an office or out in the field.
- Stress at Work – The HSE released an e-Bulletin which sheds light to businesses on what resources are available to them in regard to dealing with stress. As a country we have to deal with the Pandemic, material shortages and labour issues, which have all caused high levels of stress.
- In the Courts – A construction company fined £570,000 after worker suffered multiple fractures. After the hearing, HSE Inspector Paul Thompson commented: “There was insufficient supervision and communication during the lifting operations. There was no specific exclusion zone in place.
“This incident could so easily have been avoided by simply carrying out the correct control measures and safe working practices”.
Incidents like this highlight the importance of keeping up with standard practices and not letting procedures slip.
