This month’s focus is on asbestos management, a serious and ongoing risk in construction, maintenance, and refurbishment. With Global Asbestos Awareness Week (1–7 April) approaching, it’s a timely reminder to review asbestos hazards, controls, and compliance.

Recent enforcement cases show the consequences of poor management, including fines and director disqualifications, when work proceeds without proper surveys, controls, or licensed contractors.

The HSE’s “Asbestos and You” campaign provides practical guidance for tradespeople and duty holders on identifying asbestos, working safely, and responding correctly if it’s encountered. Buildings built before 2000 remain particularly high risk.
