In this month’s newsletter we cover what H&B can offer, legislation changes and a case study currently in the courts:

  • What H&B can offer you? H&B can tailor specific Fire Marshal & Manual Handling training courses to your company.  Please get in touch for further information.
  • Personal Protection Equipment at Work Regulation Changes – Under PPER 2022, the types of duties and responsibilities on employers and employees under PPER 1992 remain unchanged but are now extended to limb (b) workers, as defined in PPER 2022. If PPE is required, employers must ensure their workers have sufficient information, instruction, and training on the use of PPE. A limb (b) worker now has a duty to use the PPE in accordance with their training and instruction, and ensure it is returned to the storage area provided by their employer.
  • A Company has been fined after a worker suffered a fall from height – A 20-year-old labourer who was working on the roof, fell three metres through a gap in the scaffolding onto an office roof below causing injuries to his left wrist and hand, on 15 November 2017, York Magistrates’ Court was told. Infiniti Roofing and Construction Ltd of Cayton Low Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3 (1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The company has been fined £22,667 and ordered to pay £7,228 in costs. After the hearing, HSE Inspector Jayne Towey commented: “The accident could have been prevented if edge protection, constructed and installed to industry standards, was in place where there was a risk of a fall from height.”
