Construction health: There have been big improvements over recent years in reducing the number and rate of injuries to construction workers. Despite this, construction remains a high-risk industry and accounts for a high percentage of fatal and major injuries. What is less recognised is that construction is a high-risk industry for health issues too. Below are some key points about these risks, why they are so significant and how to manage them.

Do you know enough to protect your health and others from asbestos? New research reveals that nearly half of tradespeople view asbestos as a problem of the past.

No matter what safety equipment you have, if you’re not adequately trained, you shouldn’t be working with asbestos. It is illegal to work on asbestos containing materials without proper training. Find out more about the HSE’s ‘Asbestos and You campaign’ for tradespeople in the link below.

 

Company fined after repeated wood dust failures:

Essex-based company has been hit with a £4,000 fine after repeatedly failing to protect its workers from exposure to wood dust.

The HSE visited the Company and identified large build-ups of wood dust around machinery as well as other health and safety breaches. These included workers not being provided with suitable respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
