This month’s newsletter will cover topics related to the Building Safety Act (2022) and what subcontractors need to know. Principal contractors across the UK are urging subcontractors to take the Building Safety Act seriously. Whether you’re working on small extensions, refurbishments, or high-rise projects, the Act applies to you. A helpful video is available to explain how it may affect your business and what action you need to take.
The Building Safety Regulator and The Leasehold Advisory Service have launched a free online training programme for those managing high-rise buildings. The course covers key topics such as the role of the regulator, new duties for accountable persons, the Building Assessment Certificate process, and the importance of maintaining the “Golden Thread of Information.”
We also look again at Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and your Legal Duty. Employers must provide PPE at no cost to employees when risk assessments show it is needed. This includes items such as helmets, gloves, safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, harnesses, and respiratory protection. Guidance from the HSE explains when to use PPE, what the law requires, and how to manage risk effectively.
Finally a quick round-up of recent Health & Safety Executive (HSE) actions highlights the consequences of failing to manage risks:
- A worker was run over by a forklift truck.
- An employee died after a wall collapsed.
- A chemical company was fined after a worker suffered burns.
